The Philippines is front and center attempting to make unlawful territorial claims. “According to the ‘land dominates the sea’ principle in international law, the Philippines’ claim of so-called maritime jurisdiction over China’s territory is illegal. This back and forth between the Philippines and various island masses in the Sea has been ongoing for a number of years.
The current president of the Philippines is BongBong Marcus son of Imelda and Ferdinand who were exiled and fled to Hawaii amidst various criminal charges. In other words Marcos disavowed the relations of Russia and China in favor of the US and inked a nuclear deal with the US while expanding US military bases on the island nation all of which was announced as he spoke to a room full of military officials. Thus pronouncing his country as fodder for a possible conflict with China. Reminds me of the Shah and Reza at the Israeli Wall.
In exchange for Marcos pledge to the US of Israel, the reparations debt of $2 BILLION owed to the Filipino, it was marked ‘filled’. It is estimated the Marcos Family wealth to be upwards of $13 BILLION.
Now, with the South China Sea a shipping target of the West, Marcos has sold his soul. And the US is prodding a China conflict to secure it’s global dominance. What does the US want in the Sea? Oil. Black Gold. Trump is obsessed per his own admission.
In 2013 an Arbitration Proceeding by the UN over the feud was finalized in 2016 siding with the Philippines. The legal advisors for the Philippines included: Paul Reichler, Andrew Lowenstein, Lawrence Martin and Foley Hoag. All attorneys from the US.
The ruling claimed the Islands are not islands but low tide elevations. The UN claimed that China was causing significant environmental damage in its artificial building or extension of the islands. A claim that was never brought against its predecessors… The Tribunal determined that Philippine fishing and their exploration for oil in the Sea was lawful. By contrast, China never participated in the Arbitration in any manner rejecting its interference as illegal.
For decades, Vietnam and the Philippines were actively building and expanding islands. That changed after the Tribunal with China advancing and overtaking their territorial claims.
Now the US Navy is patrolling the seas harassing and intimidating – China. A sea that hosts global trade valued at $3.36 Trillion. After the Spanish-American War wherein Spain lost and ceded the territory of the Philippines to the US through the 1898 Treaty of Paris, it provided maps as annexes. The map shows that the treaty’s definition of Philippine territory did not include Scarborough Shoal and the Spratlys – as argued by the Tribunal.
In 1930 under FDR, the UK and US unilaterally created a treaty without China involved claiming the islands belonged to the Philippines which at that point was a US colony. It becomes even more convoluted! Japan used the islands as war grounds against the US in WWII. At the time Taiwan was also under Japanese control. Control does NOT equal Ownership. In fact, Taiwan was given to China by the US and WWII allies because they saw no beneficial value. That is – until Taiwan began building its Chips manufacturing while under Chinese control.
