Christian consensus believes that the ‘seven hills’ mentioned in the Bible under Revelation are the seven hills of Rome. Across the Tiber from The Vatican. Seated upon the seven hills is the Great Prostitute adorned in purple robes and mounted upon a scarlet beast – she is the great city who has dominion over the kings of earth.
Metaphorically, she is The Pope. In 800 AD, Pope Leo III established the precedent that the Emperor must be subordinate to Papal Supremacy. I would submit that the first beast(Rev 13) is the worldwide Roman Catholic religio-political system. They are the only church I know of that has an embassy in the US(http://www.nuntiususa.org/). Within that system it seems that there are many faithful followers of Christ and His teachings and my comments are not a judgement of the people but rather an examination of the ‘system’. In scripture a ‘woman’ can be used as a metaphor for a ‘church’ and indeed the vatican qualifies as that ‘great prostitute’.
