California: Floods n Fires

Like the majority of homeowners in Houston who had no flood insurance, the marijuana growers in California are watching their $3-$5 million uninsured investments go up in smoke!   Cannabis is an uninsured crop because it is illegal on the federal level, and apparently, the owners of a vast number of these facilities just watched the raging fires of California devour – everything.

To date, over 31 people have died, 300 are still missing and 3500 homes and businesses have been completely destroyed by the massive fire consuming both northern and southern California.

I seriously doubt CaliExit is going to happen anytime soon as they have become completely and totally dependent on bailout money from the federal government to survive first floods – and now fires.   And oddly, Hollywood is eerily silent. They aren’t rallying around to offer compensation, concerts, charity, or even a gallon of water.

Expect the price of wine to skyrocket.

Hardest hit are the Napa wineries just breaking into October harvest mode, now ashes. In Santa Rosa alone, the mayor estimates the cost to be in the range of $1.2 billion. The California flooding experienced in January was estimated to cost about $1.5 billion plus another $500 million to repair the Damn Dam.

But even these pale in comparison to the Midwest March Madness wherein tornadoes and freezing temperatures caused more than $7 billion in damage. To date, the cost of weather related catastrophes is estimated to cost over $22.5 billion, NOT INCLUDING, Hurricanes, Harvey, Irma or Maria. Last year over $43 billion in damage resulted from the wrath of nature with California, Louisiana and Florida accounting for over half.

Graphs of climate change are typically referenced to illustrate the concept that we are experiencing a manmade global warming – as though the graph is a straight line creating a 70’ angle. And it may, depending on your starting point.   When trying to promote the theory that it is manmade, the starting point is typically around 1880. However, if a starting point is pushed back – 2000 years, 5000 years or even 10,000 years, the graph is far different.

Trends and cycles emerge.

While we are experiencing a warm ‘trend’, it is significantly less than the peak of a warm trend 2000 years ago, which was less than the peak 3500 years ago, which matched the peaks 7000 and 8000 years ago. We are currently ‘well below’ the peaks experienced in these trends. Even more significant is the fact that the troughs are called ‘mini ice ages’, including the most recent which occurred just a thousand years ago.

The Minoan Warm Period which occurred during the Bronze Age about 3500 years ago was one of the most recent warmest and nearly double our peak today. An inscription from a tablet describes the weather as rain, darkness, a massive volcano eruption, a tsunami and storms without cessation.   Empires shifted as the storms wrought havoc on agriculture, and the Babylonian Empire – fell.   It is thought that the eruption of the volcano triggered this drastic change in climate which in turn altered geographic power.

As result of these findings, scientists developed a theoretical model called The Red Sea Trough. When the normal Trough is disrupted dry, hot air that is typical is replaced with booming, unrelenting thunderstorms. The trough coincides with a Rift, or tectonic plate spread, which when combined can create major shifts in weather and energy patterns.   These chasms could validate the parting of The Red Sea in Biblical history. But they could also be the true catalyst for climate change.

Tectonic shifts.

While scientists are still muddling with uncertainty what came first, the chicken or the egg, tectonics is similar in that hypotheses are not sure whether the mantles move the plates or the plates move the mantels.  What they do agree on is the fact that heat and cold are the predicators, and the earth’s core is a solid ball of plasma, or heat. And seismic waves and magnetic fields can alter the ‘core’ and create havoc with our weather patterns.

Unfortunately, wildfires are predominantly human caused, careless, thoughtless, and stupid.   And the losses are so much more than numbers on paper. Hurricanes, flooding, tornadoes, we can not control – fires – we cause. People die. They lose their livelihood, their memories, things that can never be replaced. Pets, livestock, and wild animals are gone. The land is barren and useless. And there is no excuse.
